Airheads do not have one brand-wide halal answer. The reviewed US Soft Filled Bites and Xtremes Sourfuls records list gelatin without identifying its species. A separate Xtremes Belts record does not list gelatin but includes glycerine. That difference matters: match your exact product and seek the source information or product certification you require, rather than treating every Airheads sweet alike. [1] [2] [3]
Start with the product name on the front
“Airheads Bites” is not precise enough if the packet says Soft Filled Bites. Similarly, Xtremes is a family name: a belt and a filled Sourful can have different recipes. The maker’s product pages distinguish bars, bites, filled products and gum. Use that full description before comparing an online answer with your packet. [4]
For the classic Bars, we did not establish a complete current ingredient record in this review. We therefore do not give every flavour a gelatin-free or certified verdict. Read the wrapper rather than borrowing the answer for a different Airheads product.
Which Airheads records actually list gelatin?
The manufacturer-supplied SmartLabel record for US Soft Filled Bites, assorted fruit, 9 oz, identifies GTIN 00073390010904 and lists gelatin. Its displayed update is 28 March 2024. The US Rainbow Berry Xtremes Sourfuls 3.8 oz record, GTIN 00073390009144, also lists gelatin, with an older 30 November 2021 update. Neither declaration identifies the animal species. [1] [2]
Those are useful documented examples, not a claim that we bought or scanned either bag. They show why a blanket “Airheads have no gelatin” answer is unsafe. They do not justify replacing the missing species with “pork” as if the maker had confirmed it.
| Market and variant | Relevant record finding | What remains to check |
|---|---|---|
| US: Soft Filled Bites, 9 oz | Gelatin declared; record updated March 2024 | Species, halal assurance and match to current pack |
| US: Xtremes Sourfuls Rainbow Berry, 3.8 oz | Gelatin declared; record updated November 2021 | Same source questions; do not assume a newer pack is identical |
| US: Xtremes Belts Rainbow Berry, 2 oz | No gelatin listed in reviewed record; glycerine appears | Glycerine source and any required certification |
| Classic Bars or another market | Not established from the records above | Read that product’s own complete declaration |
Are Airheads Xtremes halal if there is no gelatin?
The reviewed 2 oz Rainbow Berry Belts record, GTIN 00073390008383, does not list gelatin. It does list glycerine. That is a narrower finding than “all Xtremes are halal”: the Sourfuls example above is different, and the belt declaration alone does not identify every ingredient’s supplier source. [3]
If glycerine is the unresolved term on your own pack, use our glycerin guide. Ask about its source in the exact formulation. Do not assume animal origin simply because the name is unfamiliar, or assume plant origin because the sweet is fruit-flavoured.
Why a dietary claim does not settle the halal question
Gluten-free, peanut-free and dairy-related statements answer particular dietary questions. Airheads’ FAQ itself treats different product families separately. A gluten-free statement is not a gelatin-source statement, and neither is a halal certificate. Keep each claim attached to what the maker actually said. [5]
Likewise, a coating such as carnauba wax does not identify the ingredients in the centre. Check the entire declaration, including a filling or compound ingredient. Our sweets and candy checklist explains how to work through those parts without treating every additive as a warning.
Checking an imported bag
The records in the table are US examples. An imported bag sold in Canada, Britain or another country may match one of them, or may be a separate product. The shop’s location alone does not decide which recipe you have. Compare the product description, size, ingredient panel and responsible manufacturer.
If a halal mark appears, check the issuer and the product scope rather than assuming all products from the same brand are covered. We did not independently verify a current certificate for the reviewed Airheads variants. That means certification remains unverified here, not that no certificate can exist anywhere.
Evidence note: public records were checked on 1 November 2026. We did not handle a retail pack or run a private app scan. Match the cited variant, market, ingredients and any barcode to the pack you have; an older online declaration may not describe a newer recipe.
A useful question for the manufacturer
Send the product name, flavour, barcode, market, lot code and a readable label photograph. For a gelatin-containing pack, ask: “Which species supplies the gelatin in this formulation, and what halal assurance covers it and the finished product?” For the belt example, ask the equivalent source question about glycerine.
HalalFoodScan can help you identify the written ingredient or compare a retrieved product record. Check the match yourself; a database result cannot supply a missing supplier certificate. If the source remains unresolved, the Mushbooh explanation helps describe that uncertainty accurately.
Frequently asked questions
Do Airheads contain gelatin?
Some reviewed US variants do: Soft Filled Bites 9 oz and Xtremes Sourfuls Rainbow Berry 3.8 oz. The reviewed 2 oz Rainbow Berry Belts record does not list it. Check the exact variant and current label.
Are Airheads Bars halal?
This review did not establish a complete current record or product certificate for all classic Bars. Read your wrapper and verify any relevant ingredient source; do not transfer a filled-bite finding to a bar.
Are Airheads Xtremes Belts the same as Sourfuls?
No. They are separate variants. The reviewed Belts and Sourfuls records have different ingredient findings, so one cannot stand in for the other.
Does a gelatin declaration prove the gelatin is pork?
No. The reviewed declarations do not identify its species. You need a manufacturer source statement or relevant certification rather than a guess.
Sources and verification
This page uses current manufacturer information, regulator or certifier guidance, and primary references where available. Sources last checked 1 November 2026. Recipes, suppliers and certification can change, so confirm the exact pack sold in your country.
