Support

Common problems, how to report a wrong result, and how to get in touch.

The barcode will not scan

  • Glare is the most common cause. Tilt the pack 15–20° away from overhead lights.
  • Curved packaging bends the bars. Rotate tins and bottles so the barcode faces you as flat as possible.
  • Distance. Fill about half the frame with the barcode; too close and the camera cannot focus.
  • Camera permission. Check iOS Settings → HalalFoodScan → Camera.

The product was not found

No database covers every regional product. Use the ingredient scan tab instead and point the camera at the printed ingredient list, and the app reads the additives directly from the text. See the ingredient checker guide.

I think a verdict is wrong

Recipes change, and databases lag behind. If a result looks wrong, the pack in your hand is the authority. Please report it so it can be corrected. Include the product name, the barcode number, the country you bought it in, and a photo of the ingredient list if you can.

How verdicts are decided

Every declared ingredient and E-number is matched against the app’s additive classification, and the strictest status becomes the product verdict. The reasoning for each additive is shown in the Found Additives list so you can check it yourself. Full explanation in how the halal scanner works.

Limits you should know about

  • The app cannot verify slaughter method, which requires certification.
  • It cannot see cross-contamination on shared production lines.
  • It cannot resolve differences between madhhabs on insects, trace alcohol or the transformation principle. Where these matter to you, consult a scholar you trust.
