Privacy policy

The short version

The iPhone and iPad edition does not require an account. You do not give us your name, email address or phone number to use that edition, and we do not sell data to anyone.

Using the Android edition? Its features and data practices differ. Read the dedicated Android privacy policy, which reflects the current Google Play Data safety declaration.

The iPhone and iPad app

Camera

The iPhone and iPad app needs camera access to read barcodes and printed ingredient lists. Camera frames are processed to recognise a barcode or text and are not stored by that edition and not uploaded as images. Access is requested the first time you open a scanning screen and can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings.

Product lookups

When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to a food product database in order to retrieve that product’s ingredient and nutrition information. This request contains the product identifier, not your identity.

What is stored on your device

Your settings, such as language preference, and any scan history are stored locally on your device. Deleting the app removes them.

Diagnostics

Apple may share aggregated crash and performance data with the developer if you have opted in to sharing analytics with app developers in your iOS privacy settings. This data is aggregated and does not identify you. You can turn it off in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Children

The app is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

This website

halalfoodscan.com sets no advertising or tracking cookies, embeds no third-party trackers, and uses only fonts already available on your device. When you click an App Store or Google Play button, the site sends the destination store, page path, article slug and button location to a first-party Cloudflare endpoint. We retain only a daily aggregate count for each article, store and button location in an EU-hosted database; we do not store a visitor or device identifier, IP address, referrer or individual click record in that database. Standard server access logs may still be retained by Cloudflare for security and abuse prevention.

Your rights

Because we do not collect personal data tied to your identity, there is normally nothing to access, correct or delete. If you believe we hold information about you, or you have any question about this policy, contact us through the support page.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published here with a new date at the top.
